CAMPAIN AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, NOT JUST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN!

We will all agree that domestic violence is a very crucial matter in our society and it's about time we start to correct the narratives. I must confess i understand the disparity in the rate of domestic violence perpetuated on women by men in our society, but it is also evidential that women do abuse men too.

I am wholeheartedly against domestic violence against women with every breath in me. It is unjustifiable and uncalled for because i can't fathom or process it in my head why a man should demean or disrespect a womanhood to the point of raising his hands against his girlfriend or wife in a society where it is almost an aberration to hit a child. To me, it is the lowest level of disrespect for a grown women.

So, my point of this article is to identify the passive denial or should i call it nonchalance towards domestic violence against the male gender. Men do get abused too. Just like women. I think our society have so emasculated men to the point that they can't show emotions or speak up against abuse because of their ego. So, we all have come to accept that domestic violence is gender specific against women. It is not!

The truth is that human beings can't be trusted. we only believe what we hear and read about these issues, forgetting the danger of a single story. These issues are sometimes misrepresented or misconstrued depending on situations. The truth about real issues may shock us sometimes. People lie a lot!

I am thinking if we are more magnanimous or rational enough in our dealing and judgement, we will have a better world. Many men have served jail terms for abuses they were not guilty of. Inasmuch as i will never deny that women get abused everyday, i am also in the know that men get abused by women too. But more women love to play victims of abuse even if they're the ones perpetuating the abuse.

One clear case is that of Jonny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard who played victim of abuse and destroyed her husband's career with court cases and he lost all his endorsement until she was caught on tape confessing and telling her husband that he's lucky she didn't worst things to him and also saying she hit him with different objects.

We cannot continue to vilify men for every form of abuse without taking a look on how men get abused too by women. There's a need for a balance in our campaigns against abuse. I think we need to stop ostracizing the male gender from the campaigns against abuse. It wouldn't hurt if we collectively or individually campaign against domestic violence, instead of "domestic violence against women. Let us remove sexism from our campaigns. We will achieve more results.

The case of Johnny Depp and Amber was really sad. He lost so many deals and endorsements in the wake of that accusation. And now that it turned out to be untrue, the fact remains that the harm has already been done. Domestic violence and all forms of abuse are bad irrespective of the gender of the perpetrator. Men need to learn to speak out more and not feel like saying they are being abused is emasculating. Thank you for this.

igebhos, you are very right! many people still don't understand that fact, that abuse doesn't need to be physical. Infact, some Emotional abuses are worse than physical abuse. We need to start condemning every form of abuse.
